Nonuse of the possessive form of eponyms in the naming of medical conditions is now the international standard. Consequently, the time has come to revise all outmoded references to Bloom’s syndrome, including the name of our organization, hereafter: Bloom Syndrome Association. Over the next few months, the BSA will update a superabundance of references to Bloom’s syndrome within its purview, while maintaining some exceptions for historical context. Corresponding updates will also be made to the Association’s domain name, email addresses, and branding images.

Beyond the cosmetic exercise, this is a move toward currency and improving perception in a crowded world of rare disease advocacy organizations. We are posting this message to inform our community of this impending and positive change, and to alert website visitors that inconsistencies in wording will prevail during the changeover.

Thanks for your understanding and support!
